A submissives journey - Finding your way in a D/s relationship

When we look at a compass, we find there are cardinal headings, or main directions we can orient ourselves to to help us navigate or find our way to our destination. In a normal journey across a map, we usually orient ourselves with one of these cardinal headings, North, South, East or West.

The problem with a compass, we can only go in one direction at a time. Within the D/s Lifestyle, whether Dominant or submissive, we've also got some Cardinal Headings, or Primary Directions that we need to travel in. On this journey, with the compass you will use, you can travel in more than one direction at once.

Instead of calling these directions North, South, East and West, we'll call them:

Communication

Trust

Honesty

Respect

Four simple words, but they form a basis for building a D/s relationship. Without these four words and what they represent your relationship is doomed to fail. Each of these four directions has to be kept in balance and no, they are not all one sided! The balance comes form both the Dominant and the submissive. If it's a poly relationship, then the balance is equally important for all members of the relationship. It has to be mutual and can not exist any other way. Without the balance, you don't have a D/s relationship. Which one is the most important? They are all equally important, one is almost useless without the other. Another analogy is to compare these elements as spokes in a wheel (but I'll let vixen explain that to you in her illustration on another page).
