In the exchange, it includes giving a submissives's life, body, heart, mind and soul to their chosen Dom/me. In return (making it an exchange), the Dom/me gives their submissive protection, love, guidance, friendship, basic human needs and of course, an opportunity to grow as a s person in all areas of life.

Many make the mistake in thinking that submitting one's self means giving only their body for sexual use for a Dom/me. This is not true, that would be considered only as role-play between two people. Submission can go much more deeper than sex. It can be a very deep and loving relationship, with more trust and open, honest communication than most vanilla couples. Submission, in most cases, in a Dominant submissive (D/s) relationship, is giving all of one's submissive self to their Dominant.. Including all of their thoughts, feelings, emotions, service, obedience and body, with reasonable limits (as the couple will decide throughout their relationship). Remembering that it would also include all of the submissive's pains, scars, fears and problems.

Submission can be a way of living, where both people in the relationship can grow and learn together, in all aspects of their lives, in a healthy, loving, safe and supportive bond.
