The different nature of online Dom/sub relationships, does dictate that certain protocols shall be followed that do not apply to the realm at large. Those involved in Dom/sub will no doubt already know these, as they are basic to most sites. For those new to Dom/sub, these are not intended to be all encompassing, but merely the basic protocols found in most Dom/sub chat rooms.:

Dom(me)s name's will nearly always begin with Capitol letters, while submissive's names will nearly always begin with lowercase letters. Those who are not active in Dom/sub, "vanilla's", will appear in both upper and lower case. If in doubt, ask.
Do not speak to people involved in a public scene. In fact, you will notice that most of the people in the room grow quieter, while a public scene is taking place. This is desirable, for many reasons. (NOTE: Asj does not permit scening in our chat room, however, some communities do permit or even encourage this)
Do not send private messages to anyone, without asking them publicly first. Many Dom(me)s will consider this to show a lack of respect for Them, and many submissives have been instructed not to speak in private to others without their Dom(me)s permission..
There are varying levels of involvement in Dom/sub, and no judgments shall be made regarding those levels. Those involved more deeply should remember that once they were not, and those not involved as deeply, should understand and accept that there are deeper levels.
