A submissives journey’s Gorean Community.Gor..it's something you either love or hate. It may have been a word you have heard muttered with utter contempt among online people, or you may have a master who has incorporated elements of Gorean Philosophy in your training, or you may even be a gorean slave.

I know there will be some who have no idea what I am talking about when I talk of Gor. So, for those of you who have never encountered the Gorean Lifestyle, allow Me to briefly explain.

The Gor books, of which there are about 27 volumes in the series were written by John Norman (his nom de plume). The books are set on counter earth ie Gor. The main focus of his books is that men are Masters and women are slaves. There are free women who are not slaves, but the belief that deep inside, even free women want to be slaves.

The books were written as a kind of science fiction D/s erotic fantasy by Norman. But, many have taken the books at face value and have become Goreans by adopting the teachings of these novels. These people don't just talk about being Gorean, they actually live their lives as Goreans. These lifestyle Goreans follow the Gorean philosophy, live by the rules, they practice their One True Way, and own consensual female slaves or to use the gorean term, kajira.

The Gorean Lifestyle is rich in protocols, customs and traditions.As such, the ‘online world’ has found it to be very adaptable to online role play.Most online web sites dealing with Gor are nothing more than a game site with little realization that there are actually many that live this lifestyle in real life as well as a growing online following.Many actually seeking a place in the Gorean Lifestyle are misled into believing that Gor is nothing more than a game and become disillusioned, often giving up their hope of finding the true Gorean way of life.

The Asj Community has embraced the Gorean way of life, with one caveat; that being the Gorean novels were written as a work of science fiction with many things portrayed in the novels as unrealistic and unacceptable to today’s society.The Gorean Lifestyle is not right for everyone, However it is ideally suited for many others.The concept of a very black and white approach to the D/s Lifestyle, the Master is exactly that, the Master.His word is beyond reproach. The Gorean slave has but one purpose, to please and to serve her Master.The Gorean Lifestyle openly embraces the slaves sensuality and sexuality.A Gorean slave will find her life to be very structured and disciplined.

WHAT IT IS

BDSM - The Umbrella Term

BDSM is an acronym combined of several phrases: bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism. This term evolved in the early-mid '90s in internet newsgroups as a quick catchphrase to designate any of a myriad of kinky activities which or may not have to do with traditional SM (sadomasochism).

No acronym is ideal for capturing the totality of "wiitwd" ("what it is that we do") - the "BDSM" phrase does not speak directly to the interests of the fetish community, for instance - but in recent years it has come to be a term in common parlance among the alternative lifestyle population in America. When a person identifies themselves as "being into BDSM" this does not, of itself, pinpoint their interests in any of the activities that come under that umbrella.

To understand exactly what kind of a kink a person has, you have to have dialog with them. In the same manner, some people refer to themselves as "SMers", even if their interest has nothing to do, strictly, with the sensation-oriented play that sadomasochism tends to focus on. BDSM and SM are often used interchangeably. These are terms commonly used to describe one's general interest in kinky activities, and perhaps also one's affiliation with the BDSM community at large.
